Treetop Retreat

  • Following the success of their hillside garden transformation, the clients wanted to enhance their swimming pool area and reclaim a lower garden that had been underused. They sought a more inviting and functional outdoor space that would integrate seamlessly with the existing Arts and Crafts Yorkstone terraces while also preserving a mature oak tree. Their goal was to create a setting that balanced relaxation, entertaining, and appreciation of the surrounding landscape.

  • The original 1970s kidney-shaped pool lacked surrounding space for sunbathing or entertaining, making it impractical for the family’s needs. The adjacent lower garden felt disconnected and exposed to neighbouring properties and the road, limiting its use. A key challenge was to improve privacy without losing the far-reaching views while also ensuring the design respected the existing landscape features, including a treasured oak tree.

  • The new design introduced an infinity-edge pool to make the most of the sloping garden, enhancing the sense of openness while creating a striking visual feature. A smooth Yorkstone terrace now provides ample space for sunbathing and socialising, while a thoughtfully positioned pool house offers shade and elevated views over the pool and treetops. Carefully placed trees restore privacy without obstructing key sight-lines, while selective tree removal has opened up new views. The lower garden has been transformed into a more inviting space, with sheltered walks through a hillside arboretum, offering a tranquil retreat. Now, the family enjoys regular poolside gatherings, leisurely swims, and a renewed connection to their garden.
