The Warm Courtyard Garden
-
These sociable clients wanted a stylish, low-maintenance garden that would enhance their home and provide a welcoming space for entertaining. Having designed their previous garden, we understood their desire for warmth, practicality, and year-round appeal.
-
The small garden felt uninspiring, with a muddy lawn, cluttered pots, and a stark sunken seating area that lacked warmth. A dominant Leylandii hedge blocked light, while uneven steps and dirty paving made the space feel uninviting. Despite these challenges, the well-positioned terrace and potential for better material choices offered an opportunity to create a more functional and inviting space.

We reimagined the sunken terrace with corten-coloured porcelain walls, adding warmth and evening ambiance with soft lighting. The muddy lawn was replaced with porcelain paving for a clean, seamless connection to the house. An outdoor kitchen, screened by pleached deciduous trees, offers privacy in summer while allowing winter light to filter through. The heavy evergreens were swapped for softer planting in warm, cheerful tones. Practical touches, including a built-in fire chimney and discreet storage, ensure both style and function.
