Traditional Country Garden

  • The client wanted to transform their large, featureless garden into a classic English country retreat that felt established and full of character. Their vision was for a garden rich in seasonal interest, offering beauty, structure, and opportunities for family enjoyment.

  • The semi-rural setting provided a generous canvas but lacked definition or atmosphere. With no existing features to work with, the challenge was to introduce structure and maturity while ensuring the new design felt naturally integrated into the landscape. The open space offered opportunities to create distinct garden areas, each with its own character, while maintaining a sense of cohesion.

  • A series of interwoven gardens create year-round interest and a sense of journey. Curving paths wind through a vibrant spring garden, an orchard meadow bursting with summer charm, and a rose garden alive with colour and texture. A parterre garden, centred around an Amarillo sundial, extends interest into autumn with later-flowering perennials. Near the house, a generous dining terrace, draped in fragrant roses and honeysuckle, softens the transition between home and garden. A long lawn, flanked by swathes of soft blue planting, leads the eye towards a summer house and sun deck, offering a peaceful retreat. Traditional hedging and multi-stem trees provide essential winter structure, lending the garden a sense of permanence while also creating perfect climbing opportunities for visiting grandchildren.
