Riverside Garden Retreat

  • With a stunning riverside setting, the clients were redesigning their home and needed the garden to feel just as inviting. Despite having a pool, the space was unbalanced and unwelcoming, dominated by stark walls, neglected trees, and a disjointed layout. Their goal was to create a garden that felt harmonious, functional, and connected to the landscape, encouraging relaxation and outdoor living.

  • The garden was dominated by harsh terraces, an awkwardly placed pool with breeze block walls, and a layout that felt uncomfortable. The house sat awkwardly within the plot, and the boundaries felt exposed. The challenge was to soften the space, improve the flow, and create a sense of balance between the house and its surroundings.

  • The redesign transformed the garden into a seamless extension of the home. Thoughtful adjustments around the pool made it feel integrated, while naturalistic drifts of grasses and coppiced willow connected the garden to its riverside setting. Vibrant borders of oranges and yellows bring energy, softening to mauves toward the water. A barefoot path winds through planting, inviting exploration. The front garden was reimagined with a sweeping gravel drive, oak posts, and layered planting for a welcoming feel. Existing mature trees, including an old mulberry, were preserved, ensuring the garden retains its character while embracing its new, relaxed atmosphere. Now, the family enjoys a space that feels like a holiday every time they step outside.
