Hillside Garden
Client: Private
Year Completed: 2017
Size: 2000 sqm
Location: Esher
This extensive private garden in Esher was developed to complement the client’s newly built house. The clients realised early on that their gardens would be just as important as the new house and the design of the gardens was created alongside the plans for the house. The steep hill which towered up behind the house was carved out to create a completely new garden where previously the steep lawn was barely useable. The new hillside ‘amphitheatre’ garden has gravel paths and yorkstone retaining walls. Planting in bold drifts creates a garden which looks beautiful from the house all year round and also invites exploration. A new summer house creates an inviting focal point and a destination within this part of the gardens.
The front garden includes a new design for the driveway in order to create a longer and more dramatic approach to the house. White cherry trees line the approach to the house and blocks of bold perennials are scattered like leaves along the frontage. An elegant staircase with tiers of planting leads to the front door.
The South garden which benefits from amazing far reaching views has been created to provide a space for outdoor entertaining and dining. A spectacular outdoor kitchen and yorkstone terrace softened with romantic planting creates a space for the family to enjoy and share with friends.
Phase 2 due for completion autumn 2018, adds steps down to a swimming pool and pool house. The infinity edged swimming pool and sawn sandstone terrace will be surrounded by a contemporary rose garden. A new hillside woodland garden will complete the final stage in the garden’s creation. Summer flowering trees have been specially selected to create a wonderful view of the tree canopy from the infinity edge pool.
