Magnificent Cedar trees and making the most of a recently purchased area of ground formed the brief for this new garden. The family wanted to be able to add an oak framed garage and a bespoke garden room, as well as a new driveway, entertainment areas and very importantly, water.
The significant level changes up from the house as well as the protected trees meant that the area close to the house and the new extension felt like a rather dark space and cut off from the rest of the garden. Moving a huge amount of soil was not feasible, so the garden needed to be designed carefully to create the best connections between the house and garden. A cosy courtyard garden was designed close to the kitchen with an antique stone water trough and bespoke water spout. The gently sound of water and inviting steps lead gently up into the garden. Beautiful planting softens the walls and paving and leads to a flat lawn area and a generous terrace for entertainment and lounging. A dining space with atmospheric garden lighting makes the perfect spot to enjoy the late afternoon sun and parties through the evening. Sun loungers look over a tranquil reflecting pool and provide opportunities for cloud watching and relaxation.
